Why puppies are born -deaf- and -blind-

Why a puppy
This is a way for dogs to protect themselves

Most animals do not have normal sensory functions when they are just born, and some will even slowly recover and then mature gradually after 1-2 weeks. So we can’t open our eyes when we see puppies that have just been born.

In the process of evolution, each species has developed the best way to suit the environment in order to survive and reproduce. The same is true for mammals, consuming young When they were young, they were faced with a choice between the two - should they adopt a longer gestation time and then give birth to offspring with a more fully developed body and more complete functions of various organs? A slightly shorter gestation period is still adopted, and then offspring are born that are immature or even partially developed and require more care.

In the wilderness, dogs exist through hunting. Having a big belly will slow down bitches, making it more difficult for them to catch fast-running prey, and therefore it will be difficult for them to complete their hunting mission in the population. This means that it is better to get these puppies out of the womb quickly.

Except for this, after hunting (it may be several days between the second hunting), the female dog has almost nothing to do, so the female dog also has More time to care for the helpless cubs. While she is out chasing prey to win food, the cubs that don't run around can be kept safely in the nest.

The pregnancy period of dogs is relatively short, only about two months, an average of 58 to 63 days, and the result is puppies. Very unhelpful. Biologists call such species that have immature and dependent offspring "late maturing species," a term derived from the Latin word for "tending, feeding, nourishing." This term refers to the fact that the larvae of these species require a considerable period of time to be raised and cared for.

Puppies have just been born, so blindness and deafness are a kind of protection. Many of a puppy's key organs are not fully developed at birth, but they develop rapidly within a few weeks of the puppy's birth. Their eyes are also common. Puppies have closed eyelids when they are born because they are still developingThe eyes of adults are still extremely delicate and need closed eyelids to protect them from erosion by soil, gravel and disease bodies. In addition, exposure of the eyes to too bright light can easily damage their delicate photoreceptor cells and eye function.

Most puppies begin to open their eyes around two weeks old. Even so, their eyes are still not fully developed and their functions are not perfect. It takes several weeks for the eyes to fully mature and reach normal vision levels.

It is common for eyes to be closed, and it is also reasonable for dogs to have blocked ears when they are born. Relevant safety is very important for the development of the hearing system, because loud sounds can damage the ear structure of dogs. When puppies' delicate hearing systems are not fully developed, if they are prevented from responding to your voice, it is very likely that their entire set of hearing organs will be greatly damaged.

The opening of the dog's ear canal and the opening of its eyes happen almost at the same time. Likewise, even if the canals are turned on, it still takes weeks for their hearing system to fully develop. However, after the general ear canal is opened, it only takes a week for the dog's hearing to be fully usable and very, very sharp. This is why newly born puppies are both "deaf" and "blind".
